A hydraulic cylinder, also known as a linear hydraulic motor, is a mechanical actuator used to derive a unidirectional force from a unidirectional stroke. Hydraulic cylinders are used in many applications, especially in engineering vehicles, such as excavators, which use hydraulic cylinders to control the action of shovels and robotic arms. There are three main structures of hydraulic cylinder: cylinder barrel, piston and piston rod.
